Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

145.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when the special payment of £20 will be restored to a person (details supplied) in County Louth who is in receipt of invalidity pension.

A pension order book at the rate of £20 a week payable from 19 November 1987 was issued to the designated post office of payment on 10 November 1987. After the Deputy contacted the Department and reported that the person concerned had not received the book, a replacement pension order book payable from 3 December 1987 was issued to the designated post office of payment. Arrears of pension due in respect of the period 19 November 1987 to 2 December 1987 will be paid by payable order.

146.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when the appeal against disallowance of disability benefit for a person (details supplied) in County Louth will be heard.

The person concerned was paid disability benefit to 4 April 1987 after which date payment was disallowed following examination by a medical referee who expressed the opinion that he was capable of work. He appealed against the disallowance of benefit and was examined by a different medical referee who also expressed the opinion that he was capable of work. His appeal has been referred to an appeals officer. No date has yet been set for his appeal but arrangements are being made to have the case dealt with as quickly as possible.
