Vol. 376 No. 5

Written Answers. - Proposed County Galway Bridge.

163.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the great need for the provision of a bridge across Lough Corrib from Kilbeg to Knockferry in County Galway; and if his Department are prepared to provide funds for the construction of the proposed bridge.

The development of this proposal, which would involve the connection of two county roads, is a matter for the local authority, Galway County Council.

I understand that the estimated cost of the proposal is in excess of £6 million. In view of the high cost involved, a study was undertaken in 1986 on behalf of the council and the report on the study was made available to my Department. On the basis of the results of that study, the construction of a bridge at this location could not be justified on economic grounds.
