Vol. 376 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cork School Transport.

135.

asked the Minister for Education the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork has been refused school transport despite a public commitment given by her Department when Glengoura national school, County Cork was closed that all pupils from Glengoura catchment area would receive school transport to Conna national school.

Even when Glengoura school was open, this pupil's nearest school was Tallow national school. Accordingly, she is not eligible for transport to Conna national school. However, she was allowed concessionary farepaying transport to that school, as an exceptional matter.

As this facility is subject to the availability of spare accommodation and as the special service to Conna national school is currently carrying a capacity load, this pupil cannot be facilitated at present.

asked the Minister for Education the reason a person (details supplied) in the Conna area in County Cork who is eligible for school transport has not as yet been accepted on the school bus.

This pupil could not be facilitated on the special service to Conna national school from 1 September as the vehicle in question was then carrying a capacity load. Accommodation has since become available and this pupil will be facilitated from Wednesday, 9 December 1987.

In relation to the period up to the time transport becomes available a grant will be paid, on application, based on the number of days on which transport was provided by private means.
