Vol. 376 No. 6

Written Answers. - Agricultural Grants.

89.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food whether his Department provides grants towards farm buildings or provides funds for those breeding horses.

Since 1986 breeding mares registered with the Connemara Pony Breeders' Society qualify for headage payments under the cattle and equines headage scheme. These payments are confined to areas classified as more severely handicapped. Investment in horse breeding facilities does not qualify for grant aid under the farm improvement programme.
