In December, 1986, Roscommon County Council submitted a preliminary report, prepared by consulting engineers, in respect of Athleague Bridge. The report, which considered a number of options to improve the river crossing, recommended widening the existing bridge as the most appropriate solution. This recommendation was approved by my Department in March 1987. Further plans have not been received in the Department from the local authority.
