Vol. 376 No. 10

Written Answers. - Tralee Bay Pollution.

68.

asked the Minister for the Environment in view of a recent survey, showing that the amount of industrial and domestic polluting effluent being discharged into Tralee Bay, County Kerry, is equivalent to that from a town of 46,000 persons; the steps, if any, he intends taking to protect the bay which has one of the most important oyster fisheries in Europe.

I understand that Tralee Urban District Council have commissioned consulting engineers to carry out a study into the options for long term disposal of effluent from Tralee. I understand that the results of the study are now being examined by the urban council and that the council proposals will be submitted to my Department shortly.
