Vol. 377 No. 7

Written Answers. - House Improvement Grants Attempted Fraud.

42.

asked the Minister for Finance if the Revenue Commissioners have brought any prosecutions or charges against any building contractors who attempted to defraud the State by means of incorrect, inaccurate or misleading information on application and completion forms for house improvement grants; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that prosecutions or charges in the circumstances mentioned by the Deputy would not be a matter for the Commissioners to pursue. The Commissioners are, however, being supplied with details of house improvement grants paid to individual applicants and this information should enable them to pursue some building contractors who made under-disclosures of their incomes for tax purposes.
