Vol. 377 No. 7

Written Answers. - Clogherhead (Louth) Pier

59.

asked the Minister for the Marine the plans his Department has to implement the written undertaking that his two predecessors gave that work would commence within a two-year period on the rebuilding and extension of the pier at Clogherhead, County Louth; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the fishing fleet are unable to berth there at present; if he has made any submission or application for finance to the EC for Clogherhead; when he expects that work will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The development of Clogherhead as a fishery harbour is high on the priority list of harbour development works of my Department. Further studies are, however, necessary before a final plan can be settled and at this stage I cannot say when work is likely to commence, or what the financing arrangements will be. To meet the needs of the Clogherhead fleet in the meantime the present structure has been stabilised and repaired at considerable cost to the State.
