Vol. 378 No. 1

Written Answers. - Public Service Pay.

30.

asked the Minister for Finance the cost for 1988 of the following matters (a) the payment of public service pay increases pursuant to the Programme for National Recovery (b) all incremental pay increases in the public service and (c) all special or other agreed pay increases.

The estimated costs of these pay increases in the public service in 1988 are as follows: (a) Public Service Pay Agreement (first general increase) £70 million; (b) Increments £28 million; (c) Special or other agreed pay increases £42 million.

The figure of £42 million for "special or other agreed pay increases" represents, in the main, the cost of the final phases of increases being implemented under Clause 3.2 of the 1986 Public Service Pay Agreement, e.g. the teachers' 10 per cent increase.
