Vol. 378 No. 1

Written Answers. - Revaluation of Properties.

41.

asked the Minister for Finance the date of the last revaluation of business and domestic properties for the purpose of fixing rateable valuation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Commissioner of Valuation that the only areas where general revaluations of all rateable valuations within a district have taken place are: Dublin County Borough, 1908-1915; Waterford County Borough, 1924-1926; Galway Borough, The Urban District of Ballinasloe, and the Electoral Divisions of Clifden, Gort and Tuam Urban, 1946-1950; Buncrana Urban District, 1950.

The initiative in requesting a general revaluation rests with each local authority and, apart from the areas I have mentioned, no other local authority has requested a general revaluation.

The annual process of revising individual valuations of specific properties ensures that a very significant number of properties have their rateable valuations revised each year. The Deputy will be aware that the Valuation (Amendment) Bill, 1987, now before the House introduces a new system of continuous revision of valuations. Consideration is also being given to the introduction of a single modern statute covering all aspects of the valuation code.
