Vol. 378 No. 1

Written Answers. - North American Bald Eagle.

42.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason the bald eagle discovered in County Kerry was not retained in this country; and if there are any plans to breed this and other eagle species in this country.

The bald eagle discovered in County Kerry was not retained in this country as it is not a native species and, from an ecological point of view, its release into the wild in Ireland would not have been appropriate. The bald eagle is an endangered North American species. The Wildlife Service has no plans at present to breed this or any other species of eagle in this country.
