Vol. 378 No. 1

Written Answers. - Wild Mink.

60.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the widespread damage being done by wild mink he will initiate as a matter of urgency a programme for their elimination.

I have no plans to introduce a programme for the elimination of wild mink. Studies on wild mink by the Wildlife Service indicate that mink do not have as great an impact on other wild species as is commonly believed.

Where mink cause local damage, they may lawfully be killed using traps approved under the Wildlife Act, 1976.
