Vol. 378 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Link Road.

78.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make available as a matter of urgency funding to Dublin Corporation to construct and complete the link road at Grange Road, Grange Abbey Estate, Baldoyle, Dublin 13; and if he will provide all the necessary moneys to complete this stretch of roadway and widen the bridge known as Furnaces Bridge, thus providing proper roadways through Grange Abbey Estate and approaches to Baldoyle Industrial Estate.

The cost of this scheme would, in accordance with normal practice, fall to be financed by the local authority from its own resources. The local authority may, at its discretion, use the block grant for roads paid annually by my Department to supplement expenditure from its own resources on such roads. A block grant of £2.654 million was allocated to the local authority in 1988.

Because of competing demands for other important road schemes in the country and the fact that the proposed roadworks would not form part of the network of national roads, I do not propose to make special road grant assistance available to Dublin Corporation in this case.
