Vol. 378 No. 1

Written Answers. - Pension Award.

104.

asked the Minister for Defence the reason for the delay in having a pension awarded to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who recently retired from the Defence Forces.

, (Limerick West): The person referred to was discharged from the Permanent Defence Force, after 14 years service, on 19.3.87. As he was not discharged on the grounds of disability the minimum service requirement for the grant of a pension under the Defence Forces (Pensions) Schemes in his case was 21 years. He did, however, qualify for a gratuity under the scheme and this was paid to him on 13.4.87.

Following his discharge he applied for a disability pension under the Army Pensions Acts. It is hoped to convey a decision on this application at an early date.
