Vol. 378 No. 3

Private Members' Business. - Judicial Separation and Family Law Reform Bill, 1987: Order for Committee Stage.

I move:

That the Judicial Separation and Family Law Reform Bill, 1987 be referred to a special Committee consisting of 15 members to be nominated by the Committee of Selection, that the quorum be 6 and that the first meeting be held on 9 March, 1988.

Could I inquire of the Chief Whip or Deputy Shatter as to the composition of this committee? Will it have a representative from The Workers' Party? This was a specific request during the Second Stage debate.

If the Deputy has representations or submissions to make he should contact the selection committee.

I understood there was some information about that to the effect that the composition in terms of proportional representation of the groups in the House had been arrived at.

The matter will be dealt with by the selection committee but I understand that there will be a representative from The Workers' Party.

The Workers' Party, taken together with the Independent Deputies, will have one representative covering the whole grouping in the House.

I welcome that.

Question put and agreed to.
