Vol. 378 No. 9

Written Answers. - Employment of Young Persons.

140.

asked the Minister for Labour the circumstances under which a person who is under 25 years old can be employed on the social employment scheme.

The social employment scheme was introduced to provide employment opportunities for long term unemployed persons over 25 years of age.

Persons under 25 years of age are catered for by the Teamwork and community youth training programmes as well as a range of training programmes.

I have no proposals to change these arrangements at present. However, it is a matter that will be considered when the various programmes including the SES are being reviewed over the coming months.
