Vol. 378 No. 9

Written Answers. - Hospital Charge.

159.

asked the Minister for Health if he will urgently intervene to sort out the confusion between the Eastern Health Board and the VHI regarding a bill for £400 for the drug chymopian, which threatens to halt the necessary spinal operation in April for a person (details supplied) in County Wicklow.

I understand that this charge was levied on the person concerned while a patient in Dr. Steevens Hospital. As Dr. Steevens Hospital was a public voluntary hospital at that time no charges should have been made for medical extras such as drugs.

I have asked the authorities in Dr. Steevens Hospital to write directly to the person concerned with a full explanation as to why this charge was made and, if appropriate, to refund these moneys.
