Vol. 378 No. 9

Written Answers. - Community School Chaplains.

179.

asked the Minister for Education the duties associated with chaplains in community schools; who determines and regulates these duties; and who has powers of dismissal over the employment of chaplains in that capacity.

The model lease for community schools provides that:

The board of Management will appoint a Chaplain nominated by the competent Religious Authority who shall be employed outside the normal quota of the school. He shall be a fulltime-member of the staff and shall be paid a salary equivalent to that of a teacher in the school.

The duties of chaplains of community schools are a matter for the boards of management of the schools, in consultation with the competent religious authority.

A chaplain remains a member of the staff of the school until the competent religious authority withdraws his nomination.
