Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers - Guildford Four-Maguire Seven Campaign.

2.

asked the Taoiseach if he has received a request for a meeting from the Free the Guildford Four-Maguire Seven Relatives Campaign, a non-political group composed of relatives and friends of the persons involved; if he will agree to meet representatives of the group; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have received the request referred to by the Deputy and have agreed to meet a spokesman on behalf of the relatives campaign. The Government will, of course, continue to make known to the British Government their concern about these cases.

I would like to express appreciation to the Taoiseach for his agreement to meet with the representatives of the Guildford Four, the Maguire Seven and I understand the Birmingham Six appeals. It is appreciated in particular because with the ongoing almost daily series of events, these people still languishing there may well tend to be forgotten. I understand that the committee appreciate and will make full use of the opportunity to meet with the Taoiseach and to discuss the issues outstanding with him.
