Vol. 378 No. 9

Written Answers. - Fishing Fees.

21.

asked the Minister for the Marine if unemployed persons in urban areas with few recreational facilities are to be charged a fee for fishing on the Grand Canal and similar waterways.

Licences are required under the Fisheries (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 1987, in respect of all types of freshwater angling. This includes fishing in the Grand Canal and similar waterways.

Persons under 18 years of age and those aged 66 or more do not require licences to fish for trout and coarse fish.

I would also have liked to provide exemptions for other groups of citizens who are worthy of special consideration. I found however, that it would be virtually impossible to administer such arrangements.
