Vol. 378 No. 9

Written Answers. - Cork Airport Aviation Fuel Prices.

56.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he will investigate the allegations made that aviation fuel prices at Cork airport are higher than at any other airport in the country, thereby substantially increasing the air fares out of Cork in comparison with other airports.

Aer Rianta, whom I have consulted, have informed me that fuel prices at Cork Airport are higher than at Dublin and Shannon Airports mainly because of a lower demand for fuel at that airport than at the other State airports.

Aer Rianta have emphasised that the fuel price differential has no significant effect on the price of air fares out of Cork Airport in that the airlines serving the airport uplift fuel there only on rare occasions.

I am happy to inform the Deputy, however, that Aer Rianta will be introducing new arrangements in the near future to ensure that fuel prices at Cork Airport are entirely in line with equivalent costs at the other State airports.
