Written Answers. - Postal Charges.

90.

asked the Minister for Communications whether in the course of his recent approvals of price increases for An Post under section 90 of the 1983 Postal and Telecommunications Act, a comparison of Irish postal charges with those of other members of the EC in respect of (i) internal letters (ii) internal packages (iii) international letters within the EC (iv) international packages within the EC (v) international letters to the USA and (vi) international packages to the USA was considered by him in arriving at his decision; and if he will describe the comparison that now exists on foot of his decisions.

I have not approved any increases in postal charges. The last increases in postal charges were introduced in March 1986 with the concurrence of the then Minister for Communications under section 90 of the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983.
