Vol. 379 No. 6

Written Answers. - New Dublin Prison.

69.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has received representations from the Prison Officers' Association regarding the proposed use of Wheatfield prison, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, for the needs of ill-offenders in custody; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

74.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will make a statement on the requests contained within correspondence from the president of the Prison Officers' Association (details supplied); and if he will reply to each of the issues raised within the letter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 69 and 74 together.

I would refer the Deputies to my reply to a parliamentary question on 18 February, 1988, column 433 of the Official Report, about the new place of detention at Wheatfield.

The points made by the Prison Officers' Association in the correspondence referred to will, of course, be taken into account when decisions in relation to Wheatfield are being made.
