asked the Minister for the Marine the estimated cost to the State of removing from lakes by fisheries officers the number of pike referred to in his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 85 of 23 February 1988 for the years 1985, 1986 and 1987 in respect of the western region; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The removal of pike from certain lakes is a necessary management measure for the protection of trout and salmonid fisheries.

The estimated cost to the State of removing pike from lakes in the Western Regional Fisheries Board area was as follows: 1985, £55,000; 1986, £61,000; 1987, £68,000.
