Vol. 379 No. 7

Written Answers. - Cork Regional Hospital Laboratory Students.

53.

asked the Minister for Health the action or initiatives he has taken or proposes to have taken to ensure that nine final year certificate medical laboratory students placed in the Cork Regional Hospital for the completion of their course are in receipt ot the same level of payment as their counterparts who are placed with other hospitals.

The placement of third year students for the practical element of the certificate course in medical laboratory sciences is primarily a matter between the colleges providing the course and the chief executive officer of the health board accepting the students on placement, in this case the Southern Health Board. The health board has indicated that its decision to pay students a reduced weekly allowance equal to the educational allowance they receive while attenting the course in the regional technical college is based on its financial position.
