Vol. 379 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Dublin Schools.

65.

asked the Minister for Education when the proposed extension to St. Patrick's junior school, Skerries, County Dublin will receive sanction to proceed.

66.

asked the Minister for Education when the existing pre-fabs at St. Patrick's senior school at Skerries, County Dublin will be replaced.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 65 and 66 together.

My Department have agreed in principle to grant aid the provision of separate extensions at St. Patrick's junior and senior national schools, Skerries, so as to provide overall permanent accommodation in twelve classrooms for each school. These extensions would replace the existing prefabricated classrooms at the schools. Because of the on-going difficult financial situation in relation to primary school buildings, I am not in a position to say, at this stage, when the provision of the accommodation might proceed.

In view of the Deputy's interest in the matter, I will ask my Department's professional advisers to inspect the schools, especially the prefabricated classrooms, to see if any improvement works could be recommended for grant aid pending the provision of the extensions.
