Vol. 379 No. 9

Written Answers. - Rod Angling Licences.

78.

asked the Minister for the Marine the total amount of money received to date from the new rod angling licences introduced by him; the amount for each category of the new licences; the total amount received from the licences in each fisheries board area; and the amount received for each category in each fisheries board area.

The fisheries boards who have primary responsibility for the conservation, development and protection of fisheries arrange for the sale of rod angling licences through a network of distributors throughout their regions. Precise details of sales etc. in 1988 will be supplied in accordance with established practice by the individual regional fisheries boards after the end of the angling season. Because of the widespread location of licence distributors and the difficulty of obtaining reliable comparable data, it has not been the practice for the fisheries boards to make returns on the sales of licences etc, on an ongoing basis during the angling season.

It is tentatively estimated, however, that up to mid-April over 5,000 licences had been sold realising over £120,000.
