asked the Minister for Labour the total amount of money collected under the youth employment levy in 1987; and the number of permanent full-time jobs which have been created as a result.

The total receipts from the Youth Employment Levy in 1987 were £96.923 million.

In addition to job creation, the levy was used to fund programmes of training, work experience and vocational preparation for young people which would have assisted young people in obtaining employment.

In 1987, the major programmes assisted by the levy with throughput levels were:
