Vol. 380 No. 3

Written Answers. - Management Education and Training.

29.

(Limerick East) asked the Minister for Labour when he will announce details of the changes in structure, in management education and training anticipated by the Fianna Fáil election manifesto.

Our Programme for Government included a commitment to establish an advisory committee on management training to make recommendations on the future development of management training in Ireland. In accordance with that commitment, I appointed an advisory committee on management training in July 1987.

Because of the urgent need to raise the general standard of management throughout all sectors of the economy, I asked the committee to report to me by June this year so that decisions can be made quickly to ensure the best possible provision of management education training and development from within existing resources.

The committee has been meeting regularly since September 1987. I understand that on the basis of the work of its subcommittees, consultation with experts, surveys commissioned by the committee and its own deliberations, the drafting of the committee's report is proceeding. I expect the committee to meet its June deadline for the submission of its report to me.
