Vol. 380 No. 3

Written Answers. - FÁS Schemes.

31.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of people who are currently on FÁS schemes; the percentage of trainees on FÁS schemes who found jobs on the expiration of their training period in the latest year for which figures are available; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The number of people on FÁS training and employment programmes on 29 February 1988 was 34,417.

The placement rates from training programmes vary across programmes and locations. On mainline programmes, such as specific employment skills and enterprise courses, the adult placement rate was 73 per cent overall in 1987. On other programmes, such as community training and travellers' workshops, the objectives contain a high social content and there is a lower placement level.
