Vol. 380 No. 3

Written Answers. - Jobsearch Statistics.

53.

asked the Minister for Labour the percentage of those interviewed under Jobsearch who were offered either a job or a placement on an employment or training scheme in 1987; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Of the 141,593 persons interviewed for Jobsearch in 1987, a total of 30,681 or 21.7 per cent secured employment or were placed on an employment or training programme. A further 15,330 persons from the live register were allocated places on mainline AnCO courses provided as part of the national jobsearch programme.

I am pleased that so many persons from the live register were given the opportunity of being interviewed and being made aware of the various employment opportunities and training schemes available to them and with the numbers who availed of these opportunities. Persons interviewed in 1987 who did not receive an offer of employment or a place on a manpower programme or training scheme in 1987 are being retained on a panel which will be used in conjunction with the 1988 Jobsearch programme.
