Vol. 380 No. 3

Written Answers. - Second Level Schools Cycle.

74.

asked the Minister for Education in view of the recently announced decision by the Taoiseach to retain the six-year cycle in post-primary schools, if it is her intention to make provision for the extension of the transition year option to second level schools in the five-year cycle category, with a view to creating equality of educational opportunity for all those in second level education.

It has been decided that the second level schools currently providing a six year cycle may retain that option. The relevant details and necessary adjustments will be discussed shortly with the various representative bodies concerned.

It is my intention to make the option of a six year cycle available to all second level schools as financial circumstances permit.
