asked the Minister for Education the overall cost to the State of providing formal education for the following categories of students (a) those who leave school at 15 years of age (b) those who complete the junior and senior cycle in five years and (c) those who complete the junior and senior cycle in six years.

The information requested is not available in the precise form sought by the Deputy.

Excluding capital expenditure, the average cost per pupil to the State in 1987 in (a) primary education and (b) second level education was £755 and £1,239 respectively.
