Vol. 380 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Kildare School.

21.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the need for the carrying out of improvements at St. Conleth's girls and infants school, Newbridge, County Kildare; her views on the requirements as set out by the school manager; if she has costed these requirements; whether there is an urgent need for the work to be undertaken; if this work will be carried out, if possible, in the current year; and if not, as soon as possible thereafter; when she expects to allow the work to proceed; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

29.

asked the Minister for Education when finance will be provided for the approved extension and repairs to the St. Conleth's girls and infants school at Newbridge, County Kildare.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 21 and 29 together.

I am aware of the need for improvements to be carried out to the existing buildings at St. Conleth's girls' and infants national schools, Newbridge, County Kildare. An estimate of the cost of the required works has been prepared and I am agreeable in principle to make grant aid available.

I am not in a position at this stage to give a precise timetable for the procedures involved in having improvements effected since, apart from the design work, the usual tendering and contract procedures must be followed. The matter is, however, being approached on the basis that the work will be carried out in the current year, and I am hopeful that this timescale will be adhered to.
