Vol. 380 No. 6

Written Answers. - NUI Matriculation Examination.

33.

asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to discuss the future of the matriculation examination of the National University of Ireland with the authorities of that body in view of the fact that all courses for which it is used as an entry requirement are nearly fully funded by her Department.

The statutory responsibility for entry requirements to its constituent colleges rests with the National University of Ireland. A working party in my Department have been examining the whole question of entry requirements to third level education. I am considering the recommendations of the working party at present and I am not therefore prepared to make any statement on the matter raised by the Deputy.
