An interdepartmental committee of senior officials are currently examining all aspects of current and future policy in relation to third level education. The committee are examining, inter alia, the provision of third level places, the rationalisation of third level departments and institutions and the funding of the institutions. In view of such a fundamental review of third level education taking place I would not be in a position to enter into any commitments in relation to capital expenditure on new projects in the third level area pending the outcome of the committee's deliberations.
