Vol. 381 No. 4

Written Answers. - Balbriggan (Dublin) Unemployment.

27.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to the high unemployment level in Balbriggan, County Dublin; and if he will outline his proposals to attract industry to the area.

I am aware of the unemployment level in Balbriggan. The Industrial Development Authority has statutory responsibility for the implementation of national industrial development policy. The information sought by the Deputy relates to the day-to-day responsibility of the Authority and is not, therefore, a matter in which I have a direct function. However I understand that the Authority is actively promoting the town for suitable industrial projects.

Additionally, the Deputy will, no doubt, appreciate that the task of the IDA, and, indeed, that of the other development agencies, will be greatly facilitated by the continued implementation of the Government's economic policies which are aimed at creating an environment in which capital investment is an attractive and viable proposition.
