Vol. 381 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Refunds.

47.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in payment of a tax rebate to a person (details supplied) in County Louth; and when payment will be made.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the taxpayer's liability for the year 1987-88 has now been reviewed and a cheque in settlement of the refund due should reach him shortly.

The delay in dealing with the refund arose because of the failure on the part of the taxpayer to submit certain information requested by the inspector on 20 November 1987 and again, by way of reminder, on 16 February 1988.

48.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason a person (details supplied) in County Wexford did not receive a full tax rebate of approximately £1,000.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that repayments totalling £292.51 have been made to the taxpayer. The tax retained represents her liability for 1987-88.

A review of the joint liability of the taxpayer and her spouse for 1987-88 will shortly be made by the Inspector of Taxes. Any tax found to have been overpaid will then be refunded in the normal way.

49.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in paying a rebate of tax to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry in view of the fact that she submitted her P.60 to the Cork tax office in November 1987; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the taxpayer's claim for repayment of tax on the grounds of unemployment was dealt with by way of a review of her liability to tax for 1987-88. A cheque in settlement of the repayment due was issued to her on 30 May 1988.

The delay in making the refund arose mainly because of the delay on the part of the taxpayer's former employer in submitting part 1 of the relevant P.45 (cessation certificate) to the inspector of taxes.
