Vol. 381 No. 4

Written Answers. - Business Expansion Scheme.

54.

asked the Minister for Finance the progress to date resulting from the extension of the business expansion scheme to the tourism sector.

Under the scheme referred to by the Deputy, Bord Fáilte approval must be obtained for a three-year development and marketing plan which is primarily designed and formulated to increase tourist traffic and revenue from outside the State. Companies must then satisfy the Revenue Commissioners that they meet the other requirements of the scheme.

I understand that 38 development and marketing plans have been submitted to Bord Fáilte: 25 of these are under consideration; 13 have been approved. I am advised by the Revenue Commissioners that five of the latter companies have received investments totalling approximately £1.5 million in respect of which relief under the scheme is being claimed; an application has been received from one of the remaining eight companies and is being considered.
