Vol. 381 No. 4

Written Answers. - Gaming Machines.

64.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the fact that gaming machines are being operated in the Navan urban area, County Meath, despite the fact that Part III of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1956, has been rescinded in respect of the Navan Urban District Council area; if he will request the Garda to have the matter investigated; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that since Part III of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1956, was rescinded in respect of Navan UDC area, there have been a number of prosecutions for alleged breaches of the Act in that area. The Garda are not in possession of evidence that machines operating in the area at present are being used for gaming and if persons have evidence in that regard they should report it to the Garda. The Garda authorities have also informed me that they are giving the area concerned as much attention as possible, having regard to the many other demands on the Garda.
