Vol. 381 No. 4

Written Answers. - Howth (Dublin) Harbour Works.

106.

asked the Minister for the Marine in relation to work recently done on Howth Harbour, County Dublin the cost of the following items: (a) the extension to the East Pier, (b) the work on the fisheries section, (c) the dredging of the harbour, (d) the construction of the coffer dam from the East Pier to the new lifeboat house, (e) any work done inside the coffer dam such as dredging; if any grant was given for the construction of the new yacht club; if so, the amount; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The information requested, as available to my Department, in relation to works at Howth, which commenced in July 1979 and in the main, were completed by September 1984, is as follows:

(a) The extension of the East Pier was done in conjunction with the extension of the West Pier as a single contract item. Consequently a separate figure is not available for the extension of the East Pier. The total cost for the extensions to the East and West Piers is £638,050.

(b) £10,202,000.

(c) £2,910,319.

(d) The construction of the coffer dam was not a contract item. It was the method used by the contractor to carry out contract works.

(e) The only work done inside the coffer dam was dredging which cost £1,404,287.

No grant was given for the construction of the new yacht club.
