asked the Minister for Education if it is her intention that work start on a new national school in Ballymote, County Sligo this year; and if she will make a statement on the matter in view of the unacceptable conditions there for children and teaching staff.

The Deputy was informed, in reply to the question which he asked on 15 December 1987 about this project, that it was not possible then to advance the architectural planning of the proposed additional accommodation for the Ballymote national schools, County Sligo. Since then my Department has reassessed the position from the standpoint of additional classroom requirements and in the light of amalgamation proposals, and experts in the near future to be able to discuss with the school authorities a suitable revision of the original proposals.

I am not in a position at this early stage to say when work on the project may commence.
