Vol. 381 No. 9

Written Answers. - Olympic Council of Ireland Grant.

76.

asked the Minister for Education the allocation of national lottery funds which have been made to the Olympic Council of Ireland for 1988; when the money will be paid; and her views on whether the amount is adequate in view of the fact that 1988 is an Olympic year.

I have allocated a grant of £500,000 to the Olympic Council of Ireland to assist towards the cost of preparing and sending a team to the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. A payable order for this amount was sent to the Olympic Council of Ireland on the 2 June 1988. This grant representing an increase of £125,000 or 33.33 per cent on the 1987 allocation of £375,000 is a significant contribution by the Government towards the costs of Ireland's participation in the games.
