asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food his views on whether section 45 of the Land Act, 1965, which provides that land may not be owned by non-citizens of the country, is consistent with the Government's overall policy in regard to 1992 and the creation of a Europe without frontiers; and if he has any proposals to amend the section because of European integration.

An EC Commission proposal for a new directive to remove all remaining controls on capital movement within the Community was agreed to at a council of Finance Minister meeting on 13 June 1988. The implications of this directive in relation to the controls exercised on the purchase of land, under section 45 of the Land Act, 1965, are currently being examined.
