151.

asked the Minister for Education the number of second-level students from the parish of Kilquade, including Newcastle, Newtownmountkennedy and Kilcoole, County Wicklow, who are currently travelling by bus to surrounding schools; and their destination.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 149, 150 and 151 together.

One hundred and fifty-nine post primary pupils from the area in question are eligible for and avail of transport to Bray and 111 to Greystones. Seventy-six pupils from Newcastle and Newtownmountkennedy similarly avail of transport to Wicklow and 11 pupils from Kilcoole avail of catchment boundary facilities to Wicklow.

Based on average per capita costings the current cost of providing this transport is estimated to be in the region of £60,000 per annum.

The Department have no details of the maximum number of pupils from the area in question who would be eligible for school transport to post primary schools in the course of the next ten years.
