asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the building of post-primary facilities for Courtenays boys' school and the Convent of Mercy girls' school at Newcastle West, County Limerick in view of the assurances given to the Minister for Justice by the Minister for Finance in a letter dated 31 May 1988 that he was sanctioning the private financing of the projects.

98.

asked the Minister for Education if she will explain what is meant by private financing of three second level school building projects in Newcastle West, County Limerick, as conveyed in a letter from the Minister for Finance to the Minister for Justice dated 31 May 1988; the way in which this differs from the normal processes concerning school buildings; who is providing the finance; and the present status of the post-primary building project in Newcastle West.

I proposed to take Questions Nos. 97 and 98 together.

Sanction has been given by the Minister for Finance for the private financing on a pilot basis of three post primary building projects, which includes the project in question.

The precise arrangements for public tendering of these projects including the method of financing are at present being worked out.
