Vol. 382 No. 9

Written Answers. - Sligo Corporation's Housing List.

148.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Sligo Corporation's housing waiting list is heading towards a crisis in the years ahead because no corporation houses are being built and the number of existing houses becoming available for letting has greatly diminished since the termination of the £5,000 local authority house surrender scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The distribution of capital allocations to individual housing authorities for their local authority housing programmes in 1988 was made in the most equitable manner possible having regard to the overall capital available under the public capital programme and the competing demands of each authority.

It is not possible at this stage to approve any additional new starts on the housing programme.
