Since I took office in March 1987, 18 per cent of total appointments to boards or agencies under the aegis of my Department were women. During the same period a total of 69 men were appointed.
I should add that in my case appointments to boards are very often made on the nomination of representative organisations. Of the 26 persons whom I appointed at my own discretion, 8 or 31 per cent were female.
