Vol. 382 No. 9

Written Answers. - Schools Personnel.

191.

asked the Minister for Education if she will give clearance to the board of management of a school (details supplied) in County Clare to appoint a permanent principal teacher on 1 September.

It is normal official practice, when the principalship of a small national school becomes vacant, to investigate the question of a re-organisation of school facilities in the general area. Accordingly, only a temporary appointment of a principal teacher may be allowed, in this case, pending a decision on the future of the school.

192.

asked the Minister for Education if she will retain a temporary assistant teacher in a school (details supplied) in County Clare in view of the projected increase for enrolments in September, 1988.

The enrolment at this school does not warrant the retention of the post in question under the revised staffing schedule for national schools. My Department are in correspondence with the school board of management in the matter.

193.

asked the Minister for Education the reason the post of principal at Elphin vocational school, County Roscommon has not been sanctioned; and if she will be sanctioning the post before the commencement of the new school year.

Appointments to teaching posts under vocational education committees are not made by me or my Department but by the vocational education committee concerned. My function is one of sanction only, if the appointments are found to be in order in all respects.

My Department have not received any proposal from County Roscommon VEC for the appointment of a principal teacher at Elphin vocational school.
