Vol. 382 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Transport Needs.

24.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he has any plans to expand the idea of post buses as a means of meeting the transport needs of rural areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Road Transport Act, 1932, which regulates the licensing of passenger road services is the legislative base for the licensing of postbuses.

A review of that Act has recently been completed in my Department and I will shortly be putting proposals before the Government to update this legislation. The review took account of a potential expanded role for postbuses in public passenger transport.
